Necklines

Off shoulder, bardot, wide-set v-necks

A-Lines/50's/Princess
Great for the English body shapes providing the middle seam is raised to sit on the highest point of your waist.

Fishtail
Fishtails or mermaid silhouettes can absolutely work for an 'English' body shape... with some adjustments. Go for a sleeve, dropped shoulder or bardot neckline. Also raise the point where the fishtail starts.

Avoid
Strapless column or straight dresses. 

Broad Shoulders

Necklines
Scoop, V-necklines, One shoulder or Halter

These two are going to help you to create some balance around your top half and keep from your shoulders looking broad.

And/or.... wider tummy than hips... this is the classic 'apple' shape. We often see people suggesting a empire-line/a-line combo for this body shape, but we disagree. Instead, go for a seam-line that sits just above the waist (high waist) and a gentle a-line with no rouching over the tummy. V-necklines or sweethearts work well for the top.

Sleeves: We like light fabric and skin coloured sleeves with detail. Thick sleeves are counterproductive!

 

T&A

Go directly to the fishtail. You can drop shoulder for balance, deep plunge, strapless or bardot. If you want to disguise your tummy, use swoops and rouching and make the waistline higher. You can also soften the fishtail bottom.

Straight Up & Down

If you're bust, waist and hips are pretty much the same size, you can go for a dress that gives you more of a waist.
